Days of Grace

What A Night!

I had about 2 hours of sleep last night.  Lightning flashed a few times over the last 3 days and in that few times, our house being at a corner had our electricity power cut off that many times.  Last night after the fourth time close to one in the morning we lost power completely.  Playing the power supply switches didn’t help. Something somewhere in the house got toasted!

Though it was a cool night after the rain, it was still quite warm in the house.  We had problem sleeping with mosquitoes biting and can’t cover ourselves because of the heat. The boys ended up sleeping in the car with the air cond on but with the windows slightly down (I know not advisable).  Once every few minutes I tried the power supply switches again, testing every single switch but to no avail.

One of my boys said…now even just a fan will be sufficient as he fanned himself and of course he was wishing for a battery operated fan.  In the end almost four in the morning, I tried to sleep but was tough to get into a slumber with the tossing trying to get into a comfortable position.  Finally got up at seven and started making necessary phone calls for electrician.  What a night!

Electrician came and confirmed that our auto gate got toasted.  Of course the blur case I am, I can’t understand why we couldn’t have the power supply back when we off the power switch for auto gate in power supply box. Then he explained about the neutral wiring and I said Ooooh, like I understood…but then still didn’t understand…hahaha.

Anyway, thank God almost everything is back to normal today except for the fried auto gate.  I am now typing in comfort in air conditioned room, feeling so spoilt now.  Have to stopped soon too as I am hearing distant rolling thunder now.

p/s  Siew Lee, your gift came in handy last night! Thanks again.

  1. What I do during power failure at night is:

    1) Take a shower
    2) Light up mosquito coil
    3) Sleep on the floor somewhere downstairs
    4) Don’t move and just try and go to sleep

  2. hahha… i’m also very spoilt with the comfort of electricity.. what i do when there’s a power cut? i get very restless… cos i can’t do anything.. dark, hot and mosquitoes attacking.. so i’ll end up smsing or calling people.. and then grumble grumble grumble…

hope your gate gets fixed up soon even without understanding what’s going on with the wiring and all hahhaha..

nancy said: Ya…did the grumbling bit too. I hope so too that all will be fixed by the time I get back from Penang 🙂

  3. hmm well for me, if the power gets cut when I’m already asleep soundly then its fine, I can sleep through. But if its not, then I will take a shower and sleep on tile floor, then its cooling.
That reminds me during the last power cut we had it was really fun, as we ( my immediate family + aunty blo ) had a nice sing song session with Aaron playing the guitar, singing all our favourite Christian songs while lying down on cool tiled floor. i think we didn’t get much sleep either, but it was really fun.

  5. Oh wow….bath sleep? Hahaha Well like Sarah, when the power gets cut while I am sleeping its fine, because I can still sleep through the night. But if it happens otherwise, I’ll just roll down to the floor and sleep. As for the mosquitoes, I put on repellent lor. . .

nancy said: Oh ya…the repellant!!! Forgot that we have that!
