Days of Grace

Best Penang Food Marathon day 1

I know this post is way overdue…sorry…due to some reasons, I couldn’t write or want to write.  But here it is, and I guess like the previous post on the hotel, I will elaborate through the photos.  We were so overloaded with food by the time we were traveling back.

Penang Curry Mee...this lady's stall is quite unique, no proper 'kiosk' or stall. She serves from the 'ground'?

Penang Curry Mee...this lady serves from the 'ground'?...no proper stall or 'kiosk'. And she uses charcoal stove!! This is at the Air Itam marketplace.

Penang Curry Mee...notice the difference in the curry soup, not that santan-ish and the chilly is just great, shalloty! The usual garnishing for Penang Curry Mee is...dried squid slices, cockles, 'taupok' and some stalls have the blood curd from either chicken or pig (for Christians we don't eat that and my mom said it is actually very dirty).

The usual garnishing for Penang Curry Mee is...dried squid slices, cockles, taupok and prawns. The normal price is per bowl is RM2.50, we added garnishing and had to pay Rm1 extra. Still soooooo cheap!!

On the way back to the car after the yummy curry mee, we spotted some kuih muih and it only costs Rm0.40 per piece! We bought some.

Penang Famous Carnavon Street Fried Oysters...were we in for a great shock and disappointment ! 😦

We had to pay RM10.00...bleh!!!. It seems the stall was sold off thus the standard not met!

We had to pay RM10.00...bleh!!!. It seems the stall was sold off to this new 'cook/fryer' 😛 thus standard not met! But it was really not nice at all.

After the dissatisfying fried oysters, we proceeded to Penang Road for Chendol then to Pulau Tikus for Fried Kuey Teow and Mee Goreng (Mee Mamak to some)!

Penang Chendol!...Business so good that the stall owner rented a house for patrons to sit and enjoy in comfort. We used to just stand around the stall while we slurped down the chendol.

  3. Yeah lor….all the food look so nice wan….BUT Penang is a dangerous destination for me. Everytime I travel back to Penang its an eating spree !! And the eating starts the moment we leave KL. Stop here, stop there, pack snacks in the car…Hahaha
Hmm btw, is that ” kacang kueh ” = ” mua chi ” ??? If it is…I’m so sad 😦 Have been craving for ” mua chi “, and I found it on the last trip to Malacca, but then it was disappointing….So the craving was not fed…
haha anyway the rest of the food looked really really good. Nice photos of the food too 🙂

nancy said: Penang is a dangerous destination for me too! But this time we planned and shared everything so we did get to enjoy but not be ‘overloaded’.
The kacang kueh wasn’t mua chi…there is a nice mua chi stall at the SS13 pasar malam on Tuesday evening, I find it quite nice…you may like it!
And thanks for the compliment 🙂
